JOB DESCRIPTION
Primarily based at Downing Street, Smethwick, this role provides expert guidance and support to the entire Group on all sustainability matters. The Individual will Implement approved sustainability processes and strategies, ensuring the Group’s compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while actively contributing to solutions for global challenges.
They will identify opportunities for the strategic development and champion necessary behavioural changes across the organisation.
A core function will be analysing sustainability data, metrics, and reports to identify areas for improvement and address emerging issues. This analysis will directly inform responses to sustainability-related inquiries from colleagues, customers, suppliers, and other external stakeholders.
THE ROLE
- Advise and support the Group on all sustainability related matters.
- Collate, review, and analyse sustainability related data, metrics, and reports to identify issues and potential opportunities for improvement within the Group.
- Take the lead on collating data and using the mechanism tools provided (currently Carbon Glance) to produce CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) in conjunction with the Procurement department
- Along with other interested departments stay updated with the CBAM regulations as they evolve within the countries Hadley Group operate in. Ensuring that the Group is compliant with CBAM regulations and maintain access to the EU market.
- Respond to all queries from colleagues, customers, suppliers, and other external stakeholders regarding sustainability issues. Including ESG/CSG related questionnaires. For example: – Ecovadis, CHAS, Considerate Construction etc.
- Ensuring that the Group complies and meets sustainability legal/regulatory requirements.
- Identify opportunities for the strategic development of sustainability within the Group.
- Enhance the company’s data collection to include all international business entities, integrating their local data into a consolidated Group-wide system. This system should capture Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, enabling reporting at the business unit, country, and Group levels for any desired time frame.
- Collaborate with the Group’s leadership team, Director of HSE and Board of Directors with the intent of defining a clear Sustainability Vision and Strategy resulting in a data driven Science-based carbon reduction plan.
- Drive the implementation of programs and activities, in collaboration Group’s leadership, Director of HSE and Board of Directors, to achieve the Sustainability Vision, Strategy and Science-based principles for carbon reduction, resource efficiency and waste management.
- Identify and implement sustainability initiatives within the Group. Therefore, making products and production processes more sustainable.
- Monitor compliance with environmental and social standards.
- Integrate sustainability goals into business management processes.
- Highlight and train employees on sustainability issues and business management processes related to sustainability.
- Identify, support, and lead the Group’s application for sustainability and carbon reduction accreditation, standards, and codes of practices. In addition, attain and manage ongoing compliance.
- Collaborate with both the Director of HSE and the HSE Systems and Compliance Manager to develop and sustain the Group’s Environmental Management System (EMS). Including supporting the ISO14001 (Environmental Management) and leading BES6001 (Responsible Sourcing) accreditation.
- Lead and develop the Group’s Environmental Product Declarations (EPD’s) and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA’s) as required.
- Lead ESOS (Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme) audits, driving the business towards energy/fuel reduction, sustainable replacements, and self-generation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant environmental regulations and reporting requirements (e.g., SECR, EPR).
- HR, Procurement, and Finance departments will be responsible for identifying, collating, and providing their respective social and governance metrics, including established targets and goals, to the Sustainability Advisor for timely reporting.
- Prepare and present sustainability reports to the Group’s Senior Leadership Team, Director of HSE and Board of Directors.
- Promote and foster behavioural changes within the Group related to sustainability.
- Liaise, interact, and cooperate internally with all employees and externally with the Group’s suppliers, clients, and customers. With the objective of achieving the Group’s sustainability strategy.
- Working with the Procurement department, to further develop our sustainability supply chain due diligence process to identify, assess, and mitigate environmental and social risks within a company’s supply chain. It involves evaluating suppliers’ practices and performance against sustainability criteria to ensure they align with the Group’s own sustainability goals and values.
- Highlight and support a continuous improvement culture. Always promote and share best practice.
- Set an example for all employees within the Group. Demonstrate a positive commitment to sustainability. Exhibit excellent work ethics and habits.

THE CANDIDATE
Education and Qualification(s)
- A degree in fields such as environmental science, economics or engineering and preferably a Master’s degree in sustainability management or a related subject.
Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of sustainable business principles and experience related to operational implementation and practice in a commercial setting.
- Demonstrate sustained continued professional development (CPD) resulting in an up-to-date understanding and awareness of the latest Sustainability trends and topics.
- Lead and demonstrates commitment to the Group’s Corporate Values.
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations and reporting requirements.
- Ability to own and manage complex projects with a high level of independence.
- Understand sustainability accreditation, standards, and codes of practices.
- Industry-specific knowledge i.e. Manufacturing and/or Construction (steel industry or related sectors is a plus).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, reporting with strong analytical skills.
